Senior Planner - Rail - London

Working as a member of the Project Team you will carry out all project planning activities from conception to completion of projects within the project team. You will be expected to take a pro-active role in advising others of issues, actions and risks involved in the delivery of the projects they are responsible for.

Key responsibilities:

· Develop and maintain fully baselined, resource loaded and logic linked project programmes in accordance with project management and planning processes.
· Programmes should contain agreed activities, deliverables, milestones, and client deliverables.
· Work with individual Project Managers and their Project Teams to develop and ensure project programmes are maintained.
· Provide periodical internal and external reports on project status.
· Implement and maintain project monitoring processes.
· Highlight problem areas and issues and suggest remedial action.
· Provide Earned Value and KPI reports where required.
· Implement Risk Analysis on project and possession programmes as appropriate.
· Initiate and maintain close liaison with all members of the Project team.
· Initiate and maintain close liaison with client representatives on programme issues.
· Work with sub contractors to develop and maintain detailed plans as required.
· Attend client meetings including Progress and Planning Meetings as required.
· Manage a small team of planners when the need arises.

The Candidate:

· Experience of responsibility for the planning of several projects to the value of £10,000,000 from conception to completion.
· PC literate with experience in the use of Windows packages (Word, Excel, etc).
· Experience of working with Primavera P3 and Microsoft Project.
· Self motivated with sound interpersonal skills coupled with an assertive style of behaviour.
· Good attention to detail.
· Good time management.
· Good analytical skills
· Ability to travel throughout the UK.
· Potential to manage larger project planning packages in future.

As a Signalling Design Engineer with this award winning company, you will be involved in the production of Signalling Design at all GRIP stages. Permanent Way Design Engineer

Our client has an enviable history of delivering rail engineering projects throughout the world and provide the expertise to deliver - from inception through to project close out. It's an exciting time for their business as they are busy delivering projects in South East of England, Wales, the North of England and Scotland as well as overseas and now anticipate the award of further contracts both in the UK and abroad. As an integral part of their multi-disciplinary business, their Designers have the satisfaction of not only producing designs, but actually seeing them built!
As a truly national business, they have Permanent Way Design teams throughout the UK, all of which offer services covering all aspects of track design. This includes: track survey, detailed junction design, complex depot layouts, gauging and clearance assessment and trackform, component, formation and drainage design.
They are now looking to recruit a number of Permanent Way Design Engineers to join their existing teams throughout the UK.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
* Providing Permanent Way designs from concept to hand over
* Production of site survey and the design of track alignments, detailed junction layouts, formation trackform and components.
* Organisation and supervision of initial site survey.
* Design of Rail Alignments from concept to final installation, with due regard for the operational criteria of the particular project.
* Production of junction and depot layouts to a standard suitable for detailed manufacture design.

We are looking for a Risk Analyst to conduct Quantitative Scheduled Risk Assessments on a major construction and railway engineering project in London, using Monte Carlo (interfacing with Primavera P3e v5)

This needs to be someone that can not only drive the software, but who can sit with the Project Engineers / Managers to identify all possible risks, quantify the potential consequences and evaluate options to minimise or mitigate the risk, using Tornado charts etc.

This is an 18 month contract, based in North London.

As long as candidates have the relevant background, our client is happy to consider candidates with any Monte Carlo simulation software packages, including @Risk or Pertmaster.

RAIL PROJECT PLANNER (YORK)

Due to continued growth and recent success on a number of high profile and varied projects a planner is now required for a multi-disciplinary design and engineering business based in York

The Job: Planner

The planner will play a vital role within the planning department, assisting the planning manager when necessary. He/she will be expected to challenge the current methods and systems and to further develop the role and understanding of planning across the business.

Working very closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers and engineering delivery teams, your role will be involved in all aspects of the project delivery process.

An involvement from initial tendering, through delivery to project close out, you will act as a key part of the project team. Involved in complex multi-disciplinary projects, the senior planner must produce robust, logic linked and resource loaded plans.

The planner must use CPM, EVA (including CPI & SPI), and be able to advise project teams of adverse project performance and any remedial actions. Advice on resource allocation and leveling must be offered.

Mentoring and coaching of junior members of the team and to assist in the work allocation of the planning department.

An involvement in company wide resource forecasting and continuous improvement initiatives to improve the way projects are delivered.

To be an integral part of the business and to work closely with all members of project delivery teams, to advise and coach them on ‘day to day’ work planning and resource management.

The Person:
Experience of working in a rail/consultancy environment
Primavera P6 / P5 experience
A well rounded, perceptive individual with a strong, balanced understanding of technical and commercial considerations.
A proven team player, who will be a key member of the planning team and instrumental in ensuring that planning remains a flexible, adaptable and responsive function within the business.
The successful candidate must have a proven track record of successful project delivery and strong teamwork skills.
You will have experience of the complete project life-cycle from tendering to close out.

REMIT:
The remit for this assignment is to critically review, document & challenge the value of the work being undertaken and the processes / procedures currently being used, whilst also maintaining and optimising “business as usual” operations.

Your team of nine, comprising Data Analysts and Service Delivery Managers, are responsible for optimising value from an annual £30m pa spend with a range of contractors, so it is critical that business processes and other systems are as slick as possible and thoroughly embedded into their work flow, especially in view of the expected future increase in business levels.

This will include:
•Defining the management information & processes required to effectively undertake Contract Management, Compliance, Network Performance and Stakeholder Management more effectively;
•Put in place adequate procedures and processes to ensure due process is followed at all times, both within the current ways of working and for the revised ways of working;
•To mentor staff, raise the skill set within the team and to provide coaching on data interpretation and stakeholder management;
•To build trust and mutual respect with the contractors providing the service and directly manage a number of the larger contractors (£17m contract value);
•To provide timely management information
•Full responsibility for the contractors KPIs (punctuality, reliability & customer satisfaction) and develop internal KPIs for the team
•Develop a risk register and embed the principles of risk management within the team;
•To work with the IS Department to reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency of the team;
•Straighten out anomalies with the current contracts & improve consistency in contract provision;
